Responding to the Chancellor of Exchequer’s first speech today on the economy, Dr Zubaida Haque, Head of Policy, Programmes and Media at AdviceUK said:
“It’s welcome news that the economy is turning a corner. But for many people across the country, that recovery has yet to be felt in their day-to-day lives.
“Our members at AdviceUK, which delivers free and independent advice services, are still seeing unprecedented demand from people struggling with debt, energy bills, housing, benefits and barriers to work. That includes a significant number of young people.
“If the Government wants a stronger and more inclusive economy, it must invest in the advice services that help people build financial resilience, overcome barriers to work and training, and prevent manageable problems from escalating into a crisis.
“A healthy economy needs resilient communities.”
