This course is for experienced practitioners who wish to become work-based assessors in their area of expertise, and have access to at least two learners who are working towards a vocational qualification or a work-based competency scheme. To become an assessor, you will need to be job competent in your chosen field, and you can assess up to and including the level at which you are personally competent.
By the end of the induction training you should be able to understand what competence-based qualifications are, how they are structured, the people involved, the jargon, and the importance of quality assurance and continuing professional development. You will be aware of the assessment process and regulations, best practice in assessing using differing sources of evidence, will understand the requirements of the assessor qualification, and be ready to start assessing their own learners.
Learners should be aware that this award works as a competence-based qualification as well – in undertaking this course they will become candidates for the qualification and will be assessed on how they meet the assessment criteria. You will aim to complete within 9 – 12 months of commencing work as an assessor.
You will have 2 units to complete for this qualification – 301 and 302. 301 is theory based and you will have assignment type questions to answer. You will need to be observed giving feedback to your leaners for unit 302 as well as writing a reflective narrative about your role and provide products of your work such as assessment records, evidence of contributing to a quality assurance process and showing how you keep up to date in your subject area.
Another assessor qualification, a level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement, is also available for those who assess vocational qualifications in a class-room based setting. The two qualifications can also be combined into a Certificate – please contact us for more information on this if required.
