AdviceUK calls on MaPS to PRESS RESET

Today AdviceUK has called on the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) to engage in a full and meaningful consultation on the future of debt advice with debt advice providers, frontline debt advisers, debt advice membership organisations and wider stakeholders.

A collective of industry experts from across the consumer credit, debt advice, collections, insolvency, and fintech sectors, backed by AdviceUK, have joined together to launch ‘debt-tech’ firm Trustfolio Ltd, which has acquired TIPTrust and Asperitas Technologies.

Using a Whole Person, Whole Community Approach, Talking Money, St Pauls Advice Centre and AdviceUK are working with communities in Bristol to deal with money worries in ways that suit the complexity of people’s lives: through the learning that is happening locally, AdviceUK is also developing resources, networks and initiatives that will introduce the approach to others across the UK.

John was a revered figure in the field of consumer rights, an inspiration and great friend to AdviceUK (the Federation of Independent Advice Centres as it then was) and to the entire UK advice sector. AdviceUK’s CEO Steve Johnson has written to the CEO of the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS), Caroline Siarkiewicz, to ask her to pause MaPS’s procurement process for debt advice in England.

In advance of this autumn’s Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR), AdviceUK has made representations to HM Treasury on what we see as the key issues affecting our members and the people they support.

In Bristol, the Aviva Foundation is already supporting Talking Money, St Pauls Advice Centre and AdviceUK to test out how a Whole Person, Whole Community Approach can contribute to building financially-resilient communities.
