Advice Saves

The #AdviceSaves campaign shines the spotlight on the invaluable work of AdviceUK members and independent advice organisations across the UK. Their work transforms lives for people in their communities, providing life-changing advice to vulnerable people on anything from debt advice and housing to immigration, disability and health.

This year’s campaign addresses the advice sector’s workforce crisis and aims to provide a strong voice for the advice sector and advocate for policy change.

Advice Saves 2025

Despite their crucial role, independent advice organisations are under intense strain across Britain: almost all organisations (88%) report major recruitment and retention difficulties, while demand for free, independent advice continues to drastically increase year after year – in 2024-2025 was 40% higher than the 2018-2022 average.

Join our #AdviceSaves campaign and call for action to support every advice organisation so that they can continue to provide their life-saving service.

Show your support during advice week 20-24 October

Advice Saves Stories

The advice workforce crisis is among the top three issues currently affecting the sector. It is driven by ongoing funding insecurity, which contributes to lower salaries and short-term contracts across much of the sector.

Read the stories of advisers and independent advice organisations who are seeing first hand the effects of the ongoing workforce crisis, what they are doing to tackle it from within, and where they need external support.

With the increasing cost-of-living crisis and cuts to public services, you find that lots of people rely on charities such as ours. Investment in specialised training is therefore key, not only to strengthen advisers' knowledge but also their confidence when facing complex and sensitive issues.

ADVICE WORKS REPORT

As part of our #AdviceSaves campaign, we have launched Advice Works –  a landmark report offering a practical and targeted response. We are calling for National Advice Workforce strategies in England, Scotland, and Wales, bringing governments and the sector together to co-design solutions – just as is done in health, education, and childcare.

The solution is obvious – clear entry routes, high-quality training, and improved funding. With this, advice can be a rewarding, attractive career, bringing in people from every background and giving them reasons to stay.

It is time for governments to recognise advice as a key partner in public service delivery and show leadership in ensuring people are attracted to and stay in the advice workforce.

I worry what would happen to the people in our local community if they were not able to continue to access the support we provide. We are the community safety net. We are in an area of high deprivation and have built up a high level of trust. If we don’t have the funding to continue our work, we’ll leave the community at a cliff edge.

Pink graphic with bold white text that reads: Autumn Budget 2025: Implications for advice services and their clients

AdviceUK welcomes some positive moves announced in last week’s Budget statement and, in particular, the decision to lift the punishing two-child benefit cap. This is a change our members have long called for and is a clear sign that the Government is listening to the advice sector. Other welcome announcements include measures to address the cost-of-living crisis and the overall uplift to the Ministry […]

Pink graphic with bold white text that reads: “Lifting the two-child cap welcome, but any welfare reform must be co-designed with the advice sector”

Responding to today’s budget announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Liz Bayram, Chief Executive of AdviceUK said:   “We are pleased to see the punishing two-child benefit cap lifted – a sign of the Government listening to our members and others in the advice sector. However, the Government needs to go further to tackle poverty by committing to no further damaging cuts to welfare and by funding the advice sector as a key […]

AdviceUK, the UK’s largest network of independent advice services, urges the Government to focus on two priorities in the forthcoming budget – to protect those most at risk from poverty by not introducing further damaging cuts to welfare support and by addressing the chronic underfunding of the overstretched advice sector. In its budget submission last […]

The Boards of Rightsnet (the UK’s leading social welfare law and access to justice website) and AdviceUK (the largest membership network of independent advice services in the UK) have announced they are exploring whether the two organisations should come together within AdviceUK’s existing group structure to sustain the much-valued services and support that Rightsnet provides for advice services.
