Advice sector charities rule out merger

BY AdviceUK | February 9, 2026

Following a joint feasibility study into the potential for Rightsnet (the UK’s leading social welfare law and access to justice website) and AdviceUK (the largest membership network of independent advice services in the UK) to come together within AdviceUK’s existing group structure to sustain the much-valued services and support that Rightsnet provides for advice services; it has been decided this is not something that can be taken forward at this time.

Terry Stokes, Chief Executive of Rightsnet, said:

Although we are not moving forward to merger, Rightsnet and AdviceUK will continue to deliver their vital support to social welfare law agencies and collaborate together, and with others to achieve this.

Liz Bayram, Chief Executive of AdviceUK, continued:

It is with regret AdviceUK’s Board has concluded it is unable to move forward with this merger proposal. In the last two years, trustees have invested to transform AdviceUK so it is better able to support our members and ensure the issues that matter most to them and the wider sector e.g. sustainable funding, workforce challenges are addressed. At this time, the Board decided the focus must remain on delivering these priorities and the capacity and resources to support a merger was a step too far.”
