Social distancing has reconstituted the helping sector as large numbers of the workforce switch to delivering services remotely and working almost entirely from home. Whilst social distancing requires us to be physically absent from our colleagues and networks, staying emotionally connected to ourselves and each other during this challenging time, when our clients, co-workers and families need us most, is a new and pressing challenge.

This course – delivered in a two 2-hour ‘live online’ Zoom sessions, across consecutive weeks – will support participants to reflect on and utilise the latest research on self-care and building personal resilience; suggesting tools and techniques for staying with empathy for self and others, even when the going gets tough.

The sessions will include a combination of taught material, group work, individual reflection time and a reflective practice exercise to be completed between the first and second sessions.

We will cover topics which include: identifying stages of burnout, self-awareness of triggers, emotional contagion at work, peer vigilance, self-care practices, workplace culture.

We will also look at some of the specific challenges for the ‘helping sector’ which are arising out of the current COVID pandemic and, in particular, how social distancing presents an even greater need for strategies for emotional connection.

Your place will be confirmed by email, initially.

Approximately 2 weeks before the first session, you’ll receive a calendar invite with the relevant information.

Please do not forward/copy this to anyone inside or outside of your organisation – we need to know who is coming due to capacity and for security reasons.

*There will be a short breaking during each 2-hour session
