Motivational interviewing is a tried and tested approach that helps people channel the energy they put into resisting change, in a direction that helps them to get things done.
The course is designed for anyone seeking to support vulnerable clients in making positive changes in their lives. Motivational Interviewing is a practical tool that can be used to support clients to achieve positive outcomes.
What does this course cover?
At this event you will learn to utilise Motivational Interviewing techniques through a mixture of theory and practical activities, designed to help clients get on track to achieving what they want. Motivational Interviewing is a directive yet person-centred approach that guides people to make positive changes through exploring and resolving the ambivalence that may cause them to be resistant to change.

- Help client raise their awareness of the dilemmas that face them
- Overcome obstacles
- Make positive changes
- Build powerful systems of motivation that propel them both away from what they don’t want and towards what they do want
- Recognise, explore and respond to client dilemmas and ambivalence
- Help people to channel their energies in a direction that benefits them.
