AdviceUK Annual Conference 2019

Worth Working For: Celebrating 40 Years of Independent Advice

The 11th Annual Advice Conference took place this year at The King’s Centre in Oxford, 10th October 2019

“Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for.” Seamus Heaney.

The Programme

AdviceUK hosted a conference programme that was inspiring, thought provoking, informative and relevant to advice centre managers, supervisors and advisers.

Highlights of the day included:

  • An opening plenary session with AdviceUK CEO Steve Johnson.
  • Keynote Speaker Neil McInroy from CLES delivered an impassioned and engaging presentation encouraging Community Wealth Building, influencing change within our local economies and addressing poverty and disadvantage.
  • Workshops:  Fran Bennett led a discussion on Universal Credit and the impact on couples from a gender perspective,  William Roberts of the NCVO guided us through how to win at commissioning, Consultant, Wesley Harcourt provided insight into AQS: file reviews and support & supervision, Dan Holloway’s popular session raised awareness of mental health & well-being and the daily challenges people face and finally,  AdvicePro Managing Director Ali McLaren led a session on what’s new in AdvicePro SIX and using AdvicePro for file reviews and managing referrals.
  • The closing plenary session this year included AdviceUK members showcasing new, innovative projects and answering questions from delegates about them.

We had a wide range of exhibitors from voluntary, statutory and commercial organisations as well as members and associate members of AdviceUK.

This year we held a post conference event to celebrate our 40th birthday, with drinks at Dirty Bones in Oxford. Thank you to all those who attended the day and who joined us to celebrate this milestone.
