Skilling Up For Justice

Skilling Up for Justice aims to strengthen the workforce of the 70+ AdviceUK members serving minority ethnic communities and vulnerable migrants in London.

Here is some key information about the project and how you can get involved:

  1. What is on offer and how do I express an interest?
  2. Are there other ways to get involved?
  3. Who is resourcing this work and what is the wider context?

What is on offer and how do I express an interest?

If you are an AdviceUK member working in London, and your organisation or advice service mainly supports minority ethnic communities and/or vulnerable migrants with free social welfare advice, you can:

    • Get fully funded places on a Skilling Up for Justice: Learning to Advise programme. This 9-course programme is based closely on our standard Learning to Advise programme: it gives participants a comprehensive introduction to social welfare advice-giving. We will let organisations know when registration for the first programme opens.
    • Get a fully funded vocational qualification: either NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance; or NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance.
    • Get direct financial support and free expert consultancy to strengthen your workforce. We particularly want to resource work that builds pathways between the communities you serve and the advice sector workforce. This might be supporting people to volunteer, developing skills in advice-giving, or enabling people to progress to leadership roles. We can provide funding to networks, partnerships or individual organisations.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM

  • In years 2 and 3 of the project, we will be providing free training in other areas, including: Train the Trainer; Effective Supervision; Co-Production and Managing Participation; and Assessor Training. We will update this page as this training becomes available. Make sure you are signed up to AdviceUK member updates.

Are there other ways to get involved?

Skilling Up for Justice is part of AdviceUK’s wider work to support and strengthen the advice sector workforce across the UK. Our Influencing and Engagement team are always looking for opportunities to work collaboratively with our members and other stakeholders. Please get in touch via influencing@adviceuk.org.uk – we would like to make contact and explore how we can work together.

Who is resourcing this work and what is the wider context?

London Legal Support Trust  is resourcing this work over a 3-year period, as part of London Funders Propel Programme.Propel LogoAdviceUK members in London have told us about the issues they face with recruiting, training, retaining and developing the people they need. This funding enables us to work together to build workforce pathways tailored to minority ethnic and migrant communities. Other AdviceUK members are also being funded through Propel and you can find out more about their work.
