We are looking to recruit a self-motivated individual that enjoys a challenge and who is passionate about delivering an excellent student centred service. You must have the ability to handle competing priorities, knowledge and experience of offering advice as a practitioner and an understanding of the complex issues faced by students in a Higher Education setting is desirable.

General Responsibilities include:-

  • Support Service Delivery
  • Provision of Expert Academic Advice and Representation
  • Day to day responsibility of the Union Advice Service
  • Line Management of assigned staff,  student staff and volunteers
  • Work with Student Focus Manager to identify and maintain key relationships with University staff and Community Partners

Skills you will need:-

  • 18 months experience as a Practitioner maintaining a caseload
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with key partners/ organisations
  • Coaching and mentoring skills for managing and motivating staff
  • Advocacy and negotiation skills to support students at University meetings

The Union is based in the centre of Portsmouth and turns over £1.7M per annum, employing approximately 35 career staff and a further 35 student staff. The organisation also works with over 1000 registered student volunteers and has close to 8000 members of sports clubs and societies.
