2010 Commissioning
What is the consultation about?
In the Civil Bid Rounds for 2010 Contracts consultation, the Legal Services Commission asks for views on their proposals for the bid criteria and award process for civil legal aid contracts to be introduced from 2010. The LSC consultation touches on key changes to the contract terms and to changes to the scope of legal aid funding. For more details visit the Legal Services Commission web site
Summary
AdviceUK believes the key driver behind the LSC strategy is the need to reduce the number of contracts and the costs of administering the legal aid scheme. AdviceUK fears that moving to what will inevitably be larger suppliers covering larger geographical areas – potentially with monopoly suppliers in some areas - risks the loss of some very effective, trusted and diverse community-based provision and access and ultimately reduced value for money.
