Who is this course for?

Motivational interviewing is a tried and tested approach that helps people channel the energy they put into resisting change, in a direction that helps them to get things done.
The course is designed for anyone seeking to support vulnerable clients in making positive changes in their lives. Motivational Interviewing is a practical tool that can be used to support clients to achieve positive outcomes in their lives.

What does this course cover?

At this event you will learn to utilise Motivational Interviewing techniques through a mixture of theory and practical activities, designed to help clients get on track to achieving what they want. Motivational Interviewing is a directive yet person-centred approach that guides people to make positive changes through exploring and resolving the ambivalence that may cause them to be resistant to change.

Objectives for the day:

Learn simple techniques that:

  • Help client raise their awareness of the dilemmas that face them
  • Overcome obstacles
  • Make positive changes
  • Build powerful systems of motivation that propel them both away from what they don’t want and towards what they do want
  • Recognise, explore and respond to client dilemmas and ambivalence
  • Help people to channel their energies in a direction that benefits them.
