The Sustainable Advice Project

The Sustainable Advice Project’s (S.A.P.) goal was to enable our members, and particularly small and medium sized agencies, to enhance the quality not only of their funding applications, but also the quality of their organisations.

Funded by the City Bridge Trust (CBT) over three years, S.A.P helped advice providing agencies diversify their income and improve the quality of their advice services by addressing the weaker areas in applications, projects or organisational systems. It brought together the skills and initiatives developed within AdviceUK with the expertise of partner organisations to promote the sustainability and quality agenda.

We worked with London Rebuilding Society, NCVO’s Sustainable Funding Project and other key partners to help develop the investment readiness and funding systems of advice providers in London ensuring that your organisation’s plans and projects are given the opportunity to become sustainable.

An additional key element of S.A.P. was supporting AdviceUK member partnerships. We supported the development and improvement of the BMER Advice Network, the Women Together Against Advice consortium, the London Disability Network and the London Franchise Forum for members with Legal Services Commission contracts. These partnerships brought together more than 80 of our members across the capital.

S.A.P focused on the following elements:

Funding updates, including:

  • a monthly overview
  • a dedicated list of organisations that fund advice
  • information on who funds training, consultancy and capital
  • delivering workshops and seminars with our partners and funding bodies
  • providing funding and quality surgeries
  • delivering quality and funding focused training and producing materials on a wide range of topics including sustainability of advice, risk management in social enterprises and steps to partnership working
  • developing funding bids in co-operation with members and partners to build the sustainability of advice provision in London
  • introducing funding concepts such as commissioning and contracting
  • exploring ways of working together including partnerships and consortia.
