The Advice Forum Development Project

AdviceUK launched an advice forum development project in January 2006 funded by the Big Lottery Fund. The project enabled us to provide longer term strategic support to local advice forums and their lead agencies across London. The project built on the early successes of our forum work funded by London Councils (formerly ALG).

There are up to 24 advice forums located in 25 London boroughs. To date, AdviceUK has helped to set up 18 local advice forums and has provided support to the remaining six independently established forums. This project added value to the work AdviceUK has previously done in relation to advice forums by supporting their continued effective operation, after the one year set up period that London Councils funding allows. It also enabled us to respond to requests from advice forums across London for longer term support, so helping local forums to continue to develop their work at a borough level.

The work offered ongoing strategic and practical support, tools, resources, a lead agencies seminar, and training to the current 24 advice forums in London, as well as any new forums set up over the remainder of the project. Practical help was given in:

  • planning forum meetings and maintaining a strong membership
  • free policy and funding updates
  • advice and templates for funding forum work, and
  • help with arranging speakers.
