Aimed at not-for-profit legal advice providers, this workshop addresses one of the key issues facing the sector: how do you make the most of your board? NfPs rely heavily on the commitment and expertise of their volunteer trustees and directors but many struggle to recruit, retain and make best use of their board. This create risks, places more pressure on senior staff and can stifle innovation and the ability to be agile and seize opportunities.. Although good governance is the responsibility of the board, in practice is requires close collaboration and trust between the board and management team. We are therefore encouraging managers and trustees to attend together and a second place is offered at a 50% discount.

Senior sector consultant, Matthew Howgate, will lead the session and will speak from direct experience of supporting NfPs and carrying out in-depth governance reviews.

The session includes:
• Governance vs management
• What are your directors’ / trustees’ legal obligations
• What is good governance?
• What is expected of a board?
• Recruiting and inducting board members
• How to run an effective board meeting
• How to get the most out of your board
• Evaluating your board’s performance
• Tenure and succession
