AdviceUK Annual Conference 2017

‘Back to the Future?’

etc venues Maple House, Birmingham, 12 October 2017

Following last year’s successful event, we are pleased to announce that bookings are now open for this year’s AdviceUK Conference.

What does the end of public funding mean for community advice?

The advice sector emerged out of community activism and anti-poverty initiatives. That focus shifted during the era of professonalisation that dominated the last two decades. But that era and the funding that came with it now appears to have passed. With the poorest in society getting poorer are we now returning to community action and an anti-poverty context for advice? We might be going ‘Back to the Future’, but the new environment demands continued innovation from advice providers.

The programme

We have put together a conference programme with content designed to be inspiring, informative and relevant to advice centre managers, supervisors and advisers.
Once again we are pleased to say that our conference chaired by Liz Barclay, journalist and broadcaster, and Chair of the Money Advice Liaison Group.

Highlights of the day include:

  • An opening plenary session that will combine interactive with input from a panel of advice sector experts
  • Four morning and four afternoon workshops, with topics including Get ready for the General Data Protection Regulation, Empathy and Burnout in the NFP Sector and Using AdvicePro to gather evidence for policy work
  • A closing plenary session featuring a keynote speech (speaker to be confirmed)
  • An exhibition area with exhibits from a wide range of voluntary, statutory and commercial organisations

For further details please see the draft conference programme at the foot of this page.
